More Nightmare/Hallucination Creatures(Post your own ideas too!)

Recommended Posts

Me, personally, I wouldn't mind seeing more of a variation in the current lineup of Shadow Creatures. This is a more general suggestion thread, so you guys are welcome to post your own creation ideas too :3

Here's two from me.

1. An orb with 4 spindly legs, crawling at the player at fast speed. It's like a terrorbeak/nightmarebeak, but ridiculously undurable. Drops no nightmare fuel.

2. A flying bird that drops down at the player, then attacks, and waits for a few seconds before taking off again. Invulnerable while airborne. Drops 2 nightmare fuel.

Perhaps a boss type monster? Imagine the Shadow Watcher is tired of watching, so after three days of retaining less than 30 sanity he lumbers onto the screen, revealing himself to be much larger than you originally thought. On death he would drop  a generous amount of Nightmare Fuel, in addition to other unique goodies.

This. I'm all for a nightmare boss.

A shadow koalefant, from the depths of the caverns. (invincible, 1 hit on player and player is dead)

Q already made a cool looking Nightmare Koalefant. Not sure if I like the guaranteed 1 hit kill though.

Well, since the chances of me actually trying to mod anything in myself are rather slim, I might as well post my ideas for insanity bosses here.

Devourer of Woods:

This one is not initially hostile, instead, it will follow the player around and knock over any nearby trees, consuming any wood they drop. In order to stop it, it must be killed, but that won't prove to be an easy task.

This idea isn't focused on the boss fight so much as having a (slightly) world changing event. With this nightmare around, players would have to learn to live in a world where wood is scarce.

Hunter:

This small and relatively wimpy nightmare prefers to let others do its dirty work. It moves slowly, but it will follow its prey relentlessly. It influences the minds of all nearby creatures, forcing them to attack its target, even if they were friendly before.

The spiders become bigger, grow Wilson-beards, practically, and grow extra legs.

Tried extra legs, not really sure if it works or not.

Second attempt I just focused on the mouth which I think is the most noticeable/worst part of the spiders anyway. Hallucinations should take the worst part of them and amplify it or something, right?

For a bit of extra atmosphere, I think the webbing should look like it's made out of Nightmare Fuel or something, which would probably make it rather hard to see but insanity should for the most part screw you over anyway, right?

I'm not too good at coding hostile creatures - but I'd be happy to do some art. I've been playing around with different programs and the quality of my drawings has improved a lot thanks to my new graphics tablet.

So, here's a quick doodle of some humanoid Shadow creature with massive claws. Just felt like doing it.

Maybe when you go completely insane, you can see very rare shadow structures with shadow-related treasure in them? Maybe humanoid guardians. Could be the souls of the ancients, corrupted?   I dunno.

Fascinating.

Dis looks good.

I think another creature that could be interesting would be a Nightmare Mandrake. They would spawn in the plain biome like normal Mandrakes but only when your sanity is low enough where you start seeing the other hallucinations, and of course be black and see throughy.  Also when you pick them they would follow you like normal mandrakes but lower you sanity when near you. If you raise your sanity to where you can't see hallucinations anymore they would plant themselves were they were standing and create evil flowers near them.

I think it would be pretty cool to have wilsons shadow become more visible as he lost sanity, eventually getting off the ground and becoming 3d.

Below 50 I suppose he'd make snide and derogatory comments based on what you do.

But below 50? He's a total ******. Enraging bees by kicking their hives, scaring away rabbits before you catch them, starting fights between pigs and occasionally taking stuff on the ground. Shooing him away gives you temporary relief and total darkness could make his eyes glow.

And it could vary for other characters: a talking tree woody can't cut down, Abigail could slowly become more terrible as Wendy gets survivors guilt etc

I dunno. Insanity should come in more "flavours" though.
